Who We Are:
We are the Youth Fellowship of the Trinity Mar Thoma Church. Our church is located on 5810 Almeda-Genoa, Houston, TX. It is the first and oldest Mar Thoma Churches in North America. In the early 70's, two dozen Mar Thoma families were encouraged to meet with each other regularly. The congregation was formed on Oct. 19th, 1975 and was officially approved by the Episcopal Synod as a congregation in March 1978. Later the congregation came together and under great financial
stress and by God's grace alone they were able to build the Trinity Mar Thoma Church which was dedicated by Thomas Thirumeni on July 14th, 1984. It was Thomas Thirumeni who gave our church its name. In 1994 our church grew and our sister church, the Immanuel Mar Thoma Church, was born. The youths of the Trinity and Immanuel church continue to enjoy each other's fellowship.
In the end, who we are isn't as important as who we want to be. We are called to follow Jesus. Following Him simply means we need to step where He steps and mimic His life so carefully that when people look at us they see His effect on our lives. An old Jewish saying told to students who were being trained by their Rabbis went like this: "May you be covered in the dust of your Rabbi". It means that the student is supposed to follow the Rabbi so closely that the dust that was kicked back from his foot would land on the student. We strive to follow Jesus like that. God calls us to follow Him but he never sends us on the journey alone. For that reason we are here. We hope to build fellowship amongst each other so that if one of us falls there is someone there to catch him. We live to glorify God and we can't do that alone. We need community, the body must be unified; and we hope you feel the same. If you can, come out and say, "Hello". We all have a lot of learning to do; lets build each other up and learn together.
What We Do:
We hold different events throughout the year. We have a Bible Study that we call Ablaze. It's meant to be our general Bible study, open for all ages and backgrounds. We also have more specific Bible studies for women and men. We have Bible studies for ages 12-17 to talk about things that our younger ones need to hear about. We even have monthly cottage prayers that are held at different youth members' homes. Aside from Bible studies, we try to have monthly fellowship meetings. One month may be bowling; the next may be something completely different. Building genuine friendships is vital for bringing unity amongst so many different people. We also have sports activities such as a summer basketball league and other one time events like a volleyball tournament or an occasional softball game. Perhaps most importantly we try to have a monthly outreach project so we can get involved in giving back to the community. Bible studies and fellowship mean very little if we can't show the world the love of Jesus Christ.
